Grüner Veltliner (pronounced Grew-ner Velt-lee-ner) is Austria’s signature white grape varietal and is grown in most of its wine regions. It produces wine styles ranging from dry and minerally on steep rocky hillside sites to aromatic and rich wines from deeper loess soils We have planted our Grüner Veltliner on our Southern Valleys (Brancott Rd) vineyard - a very special site; geologically older soils of crushed river stones intermixed with clay and a complex a potpurri of minerals, yet still very free draining and naturally devigorating -ideal for premium grape production. All varietals grown on this terroir display a more exrotic flavour profile, richer palate and distinctive “bisquity” minerality then those grown on the wairau “Greywacke” stones.
The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the morning, cold settled and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks prior to blending and finishing for bottling in spring.
Alluring nose of fresh white flowers, chamomile tea, white pepper and lemon zest. Bright pale straw coloured, it’s instantly appealing in the glass.
To taste; white pepper and stone fruits with just a hint of allspice. And the palate - very complete; it’s full, well rounded and persistent; finishing perfectly crisp and refreshing.
